As we transition from permitting into active construction with SMP Pharmacy Solutions HQ Relocation, I wanted to take a minute to highlight the design/permitting phases, which challenged and stretched us all while helping the entire team bond and develop a collaborative spirit. G. Alvarez Studio, Inc. was awarded the project in October 2018 with the goal of designing for consolidation of SMP’s two operating locations into one 25,000-SF headquarters located just west of Miami International Airport. This will allow the firm to expand its market exposure and offerings via a state-of-the-art cleanroom, pharmacy labs, warehouse/distribution center, call center, and executive offices.
The task was to stay within a tight budget, solving for the functional needs while also establishing a brand refresh that aligns with the strong culture of the SMP Family spirit.
Gigi, Christian, Gabriela, and Melanie of G. Alvarez Studio, Inc. created an environment that inspires teamwork, efficiency, and commitment towards the growth mission of SMP, while integrating the SMP brand and architecture as one cohesive element. The design, although budget-sensitive, strategically resembles SMP’s DNA and spirit with refinement and timelessness.
As the Owner’s Rep Project Management team, we were able to provide pricing estimates along the way to help the team manage expectations for what is possible and make smart decisions about what to cut. We also ensured the owner kept a contingency allowance in the budget for a few key elements with potential overruns we might have to absorb! We also ensured the client was educated on the process, advocated for and prepared for each phase, organizing the team, and keeping it all on track.
